Accessibility

Last updated 13 September 2026

We want InstaQuote to work for every trade who uses it and every homeowner who gets a quote from one, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard on its own, bigger text, or a phone one-handed on a scaffold. This statement covers the website and web app at getinstaquote.com and the iPhone and Android apps, which run the same screens. It says where we actually are, not where we would like to be.

What we aim for

We build to WCAG 2.1 level AA. We are not fully there, and this page does not claim we are. There are parts of the app that meet it and parts that do not yet, and the list below names them. Our checking is done by hand: going through the code and the screens, using a keyboard on its own, and looking at every page at 375px wide, which is the width of a normal phone. We have no automated accessibility tests in our build and we have not had an independent audit, so treat this as our own honest assessment rather than a certificate.

What works today

Checked against the current code on 12 September 2026:

  • A skip to content link is the first thing you reach with the Tab key, and on every page it jumps you past the navigation to the main content.
  • Pages are built from real headings, lists and tables, so a screen reader can move around by heading instead of reading everything. The page language is set, so a screen reader reads it in English.
  • Nearly every form field has a proper label attached to it, and the quote request, booking and review forms a homeowner fills in are keyboard operable start to finish, with errors written out in words rather than shown in red alone.
  • Focus is visible: links, buttons and fields draw a clear outline when you reach them by keyboard, including the buttons on the home page.
  • Menus and dialogs are built on Radix components, so they open and close with the keyboard, close on Escape, and put focus back on the button you opened them from.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, the home page animations and the phone demo stay still, and the scanner's progress animation jumps straight to the result instead of counting up.
  • The layout reflows to a single column on a phone with no sideways scrolling; wide tables scroll inside their own box rather than pushing the page about.
  • Text is real text, never a picture of text. Every image carries alt text and decorative ones are hidden from screen readers.
  • The phone mock-ups on the home page are hidden from screen readers and followed by a written description of what each screen shows, so nothing in them is content you cannot get any other way.
  • The demo video on the home page has real captions, not auto-generated ones.
  • Every page sets its own title and description, so tabs and search results make sense.
  • Colours come from a single set of design tokens rather than being typed in page by page, and the signed-in app has a dark theme.
  • The home page tour is not swipe-only: every screen in it has a labelled button 44px tall, so you can reach it by keyboard or with one thumb. The main buttons on the home page are 56px, and the smaller ones 44px.
  • The photo measuring tool in the quote builder needs a pointer, but you never have to use it. Typing or speaking a description of the job gives you the same priced quote.

Fixed on 13 September 2026

  • The grey labels in the home page phone pictures, and the white label on the green bubble, now meet the 4.5 to 1 contrast minimum, and so does the red "overdue" label.
  • On a phone or tablet, every standard button in the app and on the pages we send your customers is now at least 44px tall.
  • The skip link now jumps to the main content on every page.
  • The remove buttons on the Settings page have names a screen reader reads out, bigger targets, and the photo remove button no longer hides until you hover, so it works on a phone.
  • Every button that is only an icon now has a name a screen reader reads out, including the add and delete buttons on quotes, payment stages, bank matching and accreditations. The boxes next to them for a payment stage and an accreditation are labelled too.
  • The message box on a quote, job or invoice we send your customer has real labels on the name and message fields, not just grey text inside the box.
  • The footer and sign-in links on pages like this one are 44px tall on a phone or tablet, so they are no longer fiddly to tap.
  • An automated check now fails our build if anyone ships a button that is only an icon with no name, so this cannot creep back in unnoticed.

What is not right yet

  • Compact buttons with a mouse. On a phone or tablet every standard button and footer link is now at least 44px tall. With a mouse on a larger screen buttons stay compact, at 32 to 36px, which is inside the minimum target size but tighter than we would like.
  • Very small text in the home page phone pictures. Those pictures of the app use fixed text sizes down to about 10.5px. They grow if you zoom the whole page, but not if you only turn up text size. They are pictures, so screen readers skip them, and the same story is written out in full in the page text beside them.
  • Public pages are always light. If your device is set to dark, our home page and the pages we send your customers stay light. Only the signed-in app follows a dark theme, and you choose it there rather than it following your device.
  • Automated checks only cover one thing so far. Our build now fails on a button that is only an icon with no name, but nothing yet checks colour contrast or whether every form field has a label, so for those we still rely on review.
  • Not every screen has been through a screen reader. We have tested the main paths, not all of them, and we have not tested the native iPhone and Android apps with VoiceOver and TalkBack end to end.

We are working through that list. We would rather tell you what is wrong than claim a standard we have not met.

Tell us when something gets in your way

Email hello@getinstaquote.com. Tell us the page or screen, what you were trying to do, and what you use to get around (a screen reader, keyboard only, larger text, and so on) if you are happy to. We will reply within 5 working days, tell you what we can fix and when, and if the fix will take a while we will find you another way to get the job done in the meantime.

If you use InstaQuote for your business and one of these problems is stopping you working, say so in the email and we will treat it as urgent.
